Sister's Say: Laugh Out Loud Wonderful
**Warning: this is not a YA book. It is a New Adult Book and is intended for readers 18 and older.**
For a quick definition of the New Adult genre, I would say simply that it's books about that transition period between being a teenager and beoming an adult.

Virginity.
Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible-- a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if that weren't embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She'd left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that there has been such an insurgence of books in this New Adult genre. Let me just say first off, that I love New Adult books. I love that the characters are older and more matrue, facing real life stuggles. Plus, you don't feel like such quite a perve if you think the guy is dreamy because, guess what?!?!? he's not sixteen!!!! Also, these books tend to be stand alones which means, no tortuous cliffhanger ending, no waiting years between books, and you get your happily ever after sooner rather than later!
With all that being said, if you were are wanting more of what I mentioned above, then LOSING IT is for you! I flew through this book 0.9 seconds, with the wind blowing through my hair, smiling all the way! Bliss Edwards is a theatre major in her senior year of college and also happens to be the queen of awkward! I'm sure you've met those people who just find themselves in awkward situations. They say something about their crush while he's standing right behind them, they get sick on a roller coaster while on a date or they pass gas while being tickled. If you have ever met someone like that then you've met Bliss! Only Bliss could possibly take it to the extreme! One night she decides she is tired of being the resident innocent, so goes to the local bar to "pick up a guy." Only she freaks out mid-makeout leaving him underclothed in HER apartment. Then the next morning she walks into class only to find that her hot date from the night before is her new professor! AWWWKWARD! But aren't these the type situations that you would want to crawl under a rock and die if it happened to you, but you giggle hysterically if it's someone else?!?
As you can guess, there are plenty more awkward situations and an abundance of laughs through the novel. The heart of the story is Garrick and Bliss though. It's a story of forbidden love and perfect chemisty. Losing it is a character driven novel, and I couldn't help but fall in love with Garrick right along side Bliss. The first thing about Garrick, he's British! And, that's pretty much all I have to say and most American girls are already yelling, "SOLD!" However, he is more than just a sexy accent. He knows his literaute! There are references to Shakespeare, Pride and Prejudice and more that will leave all our fellow book lovers cheering. He makes literary references without being nerdy! He's basically a book bloggers incarnation of a perfect man! Garrick is a struggling actor turned temporary professor. He cares about Bliss and her classmates, giving them a dose of reality while at the same time encouraging them to follow their dreams. He wants to do the honorable thing in the eyes of the school and leave Bliss alone. But, we all know that if that once in a life time love staring you in the face, you don't just stand there biding your time! I love that about Garrick. He is stubborn (having a little of that alpha-male gene), but he's not afraid to take what he wants!
Bliss on the other hand is a mess! I basically want to kidnap her and make her be my best friend. She would make my life seem a whole lot simpler! Her heart knows what she wants, but she's scared. She's terrified of the future (as most college seniors are), of her own judgment and of heartbreak. Bliss is so unbelievably relatable and real. Every woman will find Bliss's stream of conscienceness achingly familiar. Those doubts that you face when you are on the verge of going out into the world completely on your own and start making those decision that set you on the course for the rest of your life. So, some people might not have as many freakouts as Bliss, but we've definitely at least had them in our minds. She's sweet and endearing and will make you laugh outloud at the crazy things life throws in her path.
The theatre scene in this novel is perfection. I lived in the theatre through high school and was a theatre major in college for 2 years (until I met my now husband, and he wasn't too fond of me kissing other boys in plays). Cora captures the atmosphere, the relationships and the high of acting beautifully! In chapter 26 this quote expresses it perfectly, "That was what the theatre was about--that kind of experience. We would never be able to recreate that again. Only the people here tonight would ever know what that show was like. Theatre is once in a lifetime... everytime." (page 219) If you have ever done any kind of theatre you know how perfect this quote is. The high of the moment, the emtions and the people who lived it with you will forever be burned into your mind, heart and soul. So many times I found myself saying yes, yes, yes, this is so true!!! For those of you have done theatre you will find this book a wonderful trip down memory lane and for those who have not, you will get a realistic sneak peek inside the world of theatre.
I really did love every part of this book. Those books that can take you away from reality are the special ones, and for a few precious hours I was completely swept away into a familiar world that made me laugh, cry, cheer, melt and fall in love all over again! You rock Cora Carmack!!!

OMGOMGOMGOMG I NEED TO MEET THIS GARRICK ALREADYYYYYY!!!! He definitely sounds like a book blogger's incarnation of a perfect man <3
ReplyDeleteLOL I'd LOVE to answer your giveaway question...except I've ahh...never dated beforeeeeee so I guess it's impossible for me to share any awkward date stories :/ Anwayyy thank you SO MUCH for the giveaway! I can't wait to read Losing It :)
My Awkward date story? We ended up fighting at the end of a date on the road. A person that was walking by stepped in between, trying to see if everything was okay, and we ended up giving that guy a earful. The stranger thought we were loonies...But at least we weren't fighting anymore =)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this book. As for awkward date stories . . . never dated seriously so unfortunately I don't have any stories to tell really. haha. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
I'm sorry girls I wished I had a story to tell but as lame as it sounds I don't really date xD
ReplyDeleteThis books sounds amazing! I really want to read it!
not really embarrassing as much as awkward.. on a group blind date and halfway through my date needed to leave for some family problem and i went to leave but my friend with me made me promise not to because she needed a 'wingman' and i was also staying at her house that night sooo i had to stay.. it was the worst being the third party epsecially since we went to the movies and they decided they liked eachother enough on the first date to makeout!!
ReplyDeleteAwww, wow! That just plain stinks!!! I think your friend owes you big time!!!
DeleteLoved it! Nice review!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI had dated this guy. A few years later, he shows up and finds me Married and very Pregnant. Hello, goodbye!
ReplyDeletehahahahaha!!! That's great!!!
DeleteI knew this was something I had to read as soon as I read the synopsis! I'm looking forward to it. So glad you loved it too!
ReplyDeleteAwkward dating story... well it wasn't really a date, but the night I met my husband at a party we were playing beer pong and I beat him. He then proceeded to get sick. LOL That was awkward, but I still gave him my number anyways. :)
So, how about an awkward turn down instead? My friend and I are in high school and we decides to ask these two boys to a dance. (We're pretty and nice, not to be conceited. But it's true.) anyways so we asked the person the other wanted to go with. They both said no!!! The one guy is going out of town but the other said he had terrible dance experience. The terrible thing about that is I DIY in front of him ever day!!! So awkward!
ReplyDeleteSit lol in front of him not DIY. ;p
DeleteAwww,
DeleteI can't really share an awkward date moment since I've never dated before! And I'm not really looking forward to the prospect of an awkward date lol.
ReplyDeleteLoved the excerpt!! So freaking excited to read Losing It :D And Garrick sounds so dreamy.

As much as I'd love to share an embarrassing story, I've never dated so...But I fully expect lots of awkward moments in the future xD
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
This book sounds like such fun. I love that awkward girl and awkward moments.
ReplyDeleteI am so getting this when it comes out. Great review :)
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds sooo good, I am desperately awaiting its release.
ReplyDeleteEEP! This one is coming up for me.

I was part of the cover reveal for this one and have been curious about it for a while! I love your enthusiastic review and I can't wait to discover the theatre atmosphere for myself now ^^
ReplyDeleteAs for awkward moments: though I've had my share (calling my crush when I was 13 and stuttering stupid crap and the like) I've avoided big awkward stuff on dates so far. *touches wood*
I'd love to share a story but I've never dated anyone -_____- The first chapter was soooo good!! Thanks for the giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this book. It sounds so good!
ReplyDeleteAwkward moment: How about hiding in the bathroom at a Japanesse restaurant because of first date nerves?
Ahhh this sounds so good. I know I will love it!!
ReplyDeleteI don't really have too many awkward moments because I'm not easily embarrassed, but I would say that it was the night of my eight grade farewell dance. A whole group of us went out to dinner first and I was so busy talking to much crush to pay attention to my drink. I went to take a sip and the straw went up my nose. That wouldn't have been bad, except then I got a nose bleed from it lol!! Luckily none got on my dress and we were done with our meals by then.
Wonderful review! I can't wait to read this one! I'm already in love with Bliss and Garrick (yay for British accents!). Thank you for the excerpt!!
ReplyDeleteAwkward barely-a-date-moment (not my story): Girl X goes on a blind date with a boy that she met online (dumb and dangerous)... when they meet, he gets a friend to call his phone to bail him out because he didn't find Girl X attractive. Apparently they never shared photos. Awful moment for her, but since I think she's an awful human-being I don't care that it happened to her.
I can't wait to read this book. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great book! I can't wait to read it! Thanks for the giveaway! :D
ReplyDeleteHmm...hmm.. maybe that one awkward date was when I texted my boyfriend to meet me after 5 hours of our supposed date meeting.. who shallI blame??!!! we have an unexpected cheerdance practice, and whoever does not show up will get evicted!!!
ReplyDeletehe just staed at me like 10 minutes, and I stared in my shoes.. then he hug and blame me.. but atleast we're ok.>:D
Went on a blind date and the guy never talked the entire time, AWKWARD! I ended up marrying him 18 years ago.
ReplyDeleteWent to the movies with a guy and he smelled like garlic the whole time. I couldn't breath. Needless to say, there was no kiss at the end of the night!
ReplyDeleteI went on a date with a boy in high school when I was 14 and forgot to tell him I was vegetarian. He took me to a burger place and we were both so embarrassed that I could only order fries and a drink because it didn't cater for vegetarians! Oops!
ReplyDeleteThis guy and I were really good friends for about three years before he asked me out. Since we were so close and comfortable with each other, I decided to give it a go. And then he dumped me a week later and we had to spend the rest of the school year in awkward silence.
ReplyDeletethat moment when......
ReplyDeleteYou order grilled cheese 'cause you can't afford anything else-you dropped your wallet!
I don't really have an awkward dating story, but I have something close enough. I'm part of the ballroom dance team at my school. We have a guy:girl ratio of 1:2, so we share partners. I schedule a practice with my Latin-dance partner for this upcoming competition and later run into one of his other partners and learned that he'd scheduled us both for the same practice time. It led to an awkward talk about what it means to be a partner and how not to schedule two practices for the same time.
ReplyDeleteI'm that awkward senior in highschool that's only been on a date with her gay bestfriend...
ReplyDeleteSo excited to read this book, being in university I think I'll be able to relate lol
ReplyDeleteI haven't had an awkward DATING experience yet but one time I was walking with a boy I liked and tripped. I fell down hard, on my hands and knees and he had to help me back to my house. Horrible.
ReplyDeleteThis guy and I dated for 2 years, and I cared for him deeply. Anyways, we went out for dinner one night and suddenly he breaks up with me. I asked 'why' of course. And he said it was because he was GAY. I was speechless. Then he told me he found out he was gay halfway through our relationship. A year in.
ReplyDeleteI'm not someone who gets mad. So you can imagine how awkward that was for me. But I got over it. Now he's my best friend and I love him in a different way.
I hadn't thought much about the 'new adult' genre until this post. I'll have to pick this one up and give it a try :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm.. Hard to think of an awkward dating moment. The only awkward dating moment that I can think of is going on a date with a guy that I worked with when I worked at our Local Newspaper. He was a photographer. At the end of the date, I wasn't really interested, and he went in for a kiss, and I just kept backing up. I felt bad, but I didn't want it to go there! Lol
ReplyDeleteI've had a date I didn't even realize was a date. I guy from one of my classes asked me to come over and do homework and when I got there he was cooking me dinner and all his roommates were out. It ended awkwardly when I told him I wasn't interested
ReplyDeleteMy first kiss was after a dance at school, in my car. After the kiss, I told him it was my first and he replied, "I guess that means we're not going to have sex in the back seat, huh?" That was our last kiss.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteMy worst dating moment would be when on my first date with my boyfriend I thought I would impress him by eating sushi with chopsticks and when I went to put it into my mouth I dropped it down the front of my dress.
ReplyDeleteMy worst dating moment was when a guy (on our second date) joke about bringing a sock to this date because I talk a lot. He said this after I had apologized for talking so much on our first date due to nerves. JERK!
ReplyDeleteWhen I as 16, my friend set me up on a blind date, double blind date she was going with us with her boy friend, my dates best friend. When he showed up, he turned out to be a cowboy complete with cowboy hat, boots and jeans, which I had never liked before. He proceeded to be very forward and was a bit obnoxious for my taste. I was so ready to get away from him by the end of the night! But a couple days later he called me and it turned out away from his friends and when he wasn't nervous he was a big sweet heart. I ended up marrying him almost 5 years later and we are still together now almost 20 years after we met. But if it was based on that first date...I would of run for the hills!
ReplyDeleteI loved it. It was like being inside my head
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to read this book, Im in canada and i dont have a nook so i can't buy it off Barnes and Noble. I've looked at my book store (Chapters), I've looked online and i cant find it! I really want to read this book! Where can i purchases this book??!?!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book
