Hi y’all it’s Stacey and Pixie from PageTurnersBlog and we are here to tell you why James “Jem” Carstairs from The Infernal Devices (Clockwork Angel/Clockwork Prince/Clockwork Princess) by Cassandra Clare is the guy you should be crushing on - and voting for in the 2nd Annual YA Crush Tournament.
“He touched her as he usually touched his beloved Violin, with a soft and urgent grace that left her breathless.”
We met Jem in Clockwork Angel and we couldn’t get him out of our heads. He’s the best friend, the one that’s over shadowed by the bright light; but Jem caught our eyes and our hearts! He’s one of those guys, that you hope to find once in your lifetime. He makes you feel wanted.

“Brought up in the Institute in Shanghai, Jem's parents were killed by a demon who allowed Jem to live—but with a terrible price to be paid. Frail and silver-haired, Jem seems an unlikely demon-killer, but his skills and swift intelligence make him a formidable foe. He finds a kindred spirit in Tessa as both of them feel they are torn between two worlds, neither belonging completely to one or to the other. As Jem's affection for her grows, will Will have to hurt the only person in his life he's ever seemed to care about?” (from http://www.shadowhunters.com) Beyond being an amazing person, Jem is also a masterful violin player, a skilled fighter and very intelligent. He speaks multiple languages and likes to quote Mandarin to Tessa.

Jem has a very kind and loving personality and he sees the beauty & goodness in everyone. He’s an optimist; he’s loyal to the end, even when it ends up breaking his heart. Jem is steadfast and caring and loves with all his being. He is also Will’s Parabatai (Blood Brother) which is a very strong commitment between Nephilim (“… we mean a matched team of warriors—two men who swear to protect each other and guard each other’s backs.”).

A quote we think sums up Jem’s personality to a “t.”
“Whatever you are physically...male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy--all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. All those other things, they are the glass that contains the lamp, but you are the light inside.” (Clockwork Angel)
Jem is of Chinese and British decent and this, along with the side effects of the drug based torture he has survived, has given him a very distinct look. He is pale with bright silver hair and eyes. Jem is very tall and lean, with angular bone structure that makes him look younger than 17. Because of the drug based torture he suffered, he is now addicted to the drug. This drug addiction is slowly killing him, but it’s what’s making his hair and eyes go silver, adding to his already stunning looks.
His beauty did not blaze like Will's did in fierce colors and repressed fire, but it had its own muted perfection, the loveliness of snow falling against a silver gray sky.” (from Clockwork Prince)
“I can offer you my life, though it is a short life. I can offer you my heart, though I have no idea how many beats it shall sustain. But I love you enough to hope the rest of my life-whatever its length-happy, by spending it with you.” –Jem (from Clockwork Prince)
“Jem is nothing but goodness.” (from Clockwork Prince

Welcome to The Hunger Games!!

I'm Tif from Paranormal Reads, or this Paranormal Reads, and this is PR's first time EVER being in a YA Sisterhood Tourney. The girls & I are extremely excited about being here, but even more thrilled about representing GALE HAWTHORNE!! Yes you saw that right, Gale from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Now, if you've never read The Hunger Games you can find out more about the trilogy here.

Though, I'm here to give you reasons as to why YOU should vote for Gale.
Not only was Gale my crush from The Hunger Games but how can you not fall in love with an over six foot tall, olive skinned, straight black hair, and gray eyed guy. I mean, come on ladies, that's like tall dark and handsome right there at your fingertips! He's also handy with snares and bow & arrows, which you never know if it could come in handy one day. We can also add on the fact that he's responsible and caring. When Katniss gets taken at the reaping, he promised that he will take care of both of their families. Strength is something else he has. Watching his best friend, someone he truly cares about, be put in an arena to fight to the death had to be so hard for him to do.

"The Peacekeepers are back too soon and Gale asks for more time, but they’re taking him away and I start to panic. “Don’t let them starve!”
“I won’t! You know I won’t! Katniss, remember I —” he says, and they yank us apart and slam the door and I’ll never know what it was he wanted me to remember. "
 — p.40 The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

To me, Gale has everything you look for in a crush. Sure he has the amazing great looks along with his wonderful guy characteristics, and everything you would look for in a heart throb. But what else puts him as the ultimate crush? How about having one of those special connections with the main character, Katniss Everdeen, that you can feel
When your reading The Hunger Games, though he's not a huge part of this first book, you can tell he was more than just her best friend and hunting partner. He was that special someone. It was something that didn't have to be written to see.

"Gale gave me a sense of security I’d lacked since my father’s death. His companionship replaced the long solitary hours in the woods. I became a much better hunter when I didn’t have to look over my shoulder constantly, when someone was watching my back.
But he turned into so much more than a hunting partner. He became my confidant, someone with whom I could share thoughts I could never voice inside the fence. In exchange, he trusted me with his.
Being out in the woods with Gale … sometimes I was actually happy."
— p.111-112 Katniss, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I guess what I'm trying to say about Gale is if you take his tall, dark and handsome, throw it in a mixing bowl along with a great personality. Add in some passion and strength. Did I mention the rebelling against the Capital? Okay, well toss in that hot rebelling attitude we all love as well. Mix in a love connection that pulls us into a story, (that we can't get enough of). Bake for the amount of time it takes you to actually read The Hunger Games (and Gale). Let yourself cool down for a minute and then you will know what I'm talking about.

Thanks so much for reading!
