On behalf of Cammie Morgan ;)
I'm so excited to be a part of the awesome!! Hermione and I plan to bring it! I hope I can do her justice!
ReplyDeleteI looked through this list, and I have to say, I don't see many heroines here.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to play the feminist and point out that many of these girls aren't heroines: they're damsels! Luce? Come on? Granted, I didn't read the newest book, but after Fallen and Torment it's obvious she's not really saving herslef; staying in an abusive relationship with a guy who's honestly a jerk. And that's just one example.
I'm not saying all of these girls are that way, but I am wondering, how where these "heroines" selected? Where just the most popular girls from YA books chosen, or was there any criteria to what made these girls heroic?
I'm sorry if this seems really heated, but the lack of real "heroines" in YA literature - and OMG the unhealthy realationships! - makes me a tad angry.
Gabi
Wow Gabi that is kinda harsh. Some of the girls aren't "heroines" but most weren't "damsels" by any means. They all have a willingness to want to take control of a situation and won't hesitate to jump in a battle. You are right about Luce because she seems to just run away.
ReplyDeleteAs for the relationships, they are classic fairy tale love stories. Love conquers all seems to be theme. As for Luce and Daniel, Daniel is a jerk but wouldn't you be not so nice if you lost the love of your life over and over for your whole life, and mind you he's OLD? I don't think I would be really happy to run into that person and I wouldn't really want to start anything if I thought it was my fault they kept dying a really crappy death.
I haven't read all the books on the list but I have read most and the list seems pretty accurate. These girls are a little modern in the fact that they want to jump in the battles and they want to have their own lives but at the same time they want to share that life with the men.
Maybe there should be more books written from a male perspective but I'm sure it would read a little bit the same way only the guy would be complaining about their love interest and how moody and non-understanding they are. I would love to her Jace's point of view on Clary's stubbornness or Dimitri dealing with Rose trying to always get herself killed. I'm sure it would be quite entertaining.
I think Jane Austen would applaud these authors at the books they have written today. But we all have opinions so I decided to share mine. Hope that's okay. :)
