1st Annual YA Crush Tourney Awards Blog-emony

First off let me start by saying thank you, thank you, thank you to all our wonderful advocates!  You were UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE!!!  You guys turned this tourney it to something we could have never dreamed up in our wildest imaginations!!!  You sacrificed sleep, time, money, your book collections, and so much more, all for the love of these amazing characters!  We love you and are counting down the days until the next tourney starts!  We can't wait to spend another month and a half with all of you!  Anyone want to meet for a YA Crush Tourney reunion?!?!?

We love our advocates, but not one of us would be here if it wasn't for our amazing authors!!!  Every author in this tourney has created characters that are so much more than fictional!  If only there was a spell to make them literally step off of the page!  Between teasers, deleted scenes, dirty sexy scenes not just from Cassandra Clare (I seem to remember reading a certain shower scene), donations to charities, donating books and other swag, signing books, staying up all night, and crazy other incentives, the authors brought this tournament to a whole new level!  Words simply cannot express how thankful we all are!

Now onto to the awards!  We have collected quite a little stash of amazing gifts!  Some of these are from us, others from advocates and some from the authors!  Thank you to everyone who donated these wonderful prizes!  This is what we have for the advocates:

Signed Copies of Shade and Shift donated by Jeri Smith-Ready
Signed set of Soul Screamers (1st 4 books) donated by Fiktshun & Rachel Vincent

Signed copy of Hourglass by Myra McEntire donated by Myra McEntire

Arc of Don't Breathe a Word by Holly Cupalla donated by Fiktshun
Plus a whole slew of signed posters, buttons, bookmarks and reading guides which were donated by Cassandra Clare, Jeri Smith-Ready, Becca Fitzpatrick, Myra McEntire, Amy Plum, and Veronica Roth

All of our Tournament advocates will be receiving a little something, though we do have some larger, more significant prizes for the standouts!  Be on the lookout for our email!

Without further ado, we'd like to honor first the advocates of our Elite 8 characters!

Amy Green- Jace's Advocate- Amy (YA-Sisterhood) was not only an advocate for Jace, but was constantly spreading the word about each and every match via twitter.

Fictitious Delicious - Zachary's Advocate- Amy and Jen were goddesses of Rhyme, foreign language tweets, creative voting techniques, and the fearless leaders of Team Kilt!  They took their lastly seated Zach all the way to the finals!!!

Fiktshun-Tod's Advocate-Rachel was a force to be reckoned with!  Tod was seed 20, and she brought him all the way to the final 4!  That is such an amazing feat!  And, and big thank you to her for donating so many books for prizes!

Two Chicks on Books- Ash's Advocate- Jaime and Patricia were freezing out the competition with their boy Ash!  They also were crazy twitterers (is that a word) staying up all night cheering on Team Kilt!

Bookish Bethie- Kaleb's Advocate- Bethany L led her "sexy pirate" all the way to the elite 8!  Plus, Kaleb does not even show up in the book until half way through it!  Pretty dang impressive!

Bethany S (YA-Sisterhood)-Michael's Advocate- Anyone who compares Michael with Mr. Darcy in their defense definitely gets to be in the top 8!  I need a fan just thinking about both of them!  (Also a big congrats to Myra McEntire for having 2 crushes in the Excellent 8!)

Books over Boys- Patch's Advocate- Momo is the General of all Armies especially Patch's Army!  Plus, between videos, photoshopped pics, live actions pics, Momo also gets the Multimedia award!  You are definitely the most tech-savy of us all!

Deanne-W.W. Hale V's advocate- Deanne wins the coolest librarian I've ever met award!  Seriously, what other librarian do you know that would be in the YA Crush Tourney?  Greatness!!!

***All of our Elite 8 advocates will be receiving an email about your prize, so be on the lookout!

And now for a few miscellaneous awards:

The Numb Thumbs Award- For the voting machine that is Brooke Reports (Jule's advocate)!

The Incentive Queen Award- In a true act of sacrifice for Team Kilt, Melissa (St. Clair's advocate) (@3fixedhearts) offered to wash cars in a bikini in exchange for guy votes! Now that is commitment!

Descriptions-
Marylee Carney represented FOUR with a series of Acrostic Poems! She basically defended her guy, but only with words that started with F, O, U, or R. Talk about working within confined limits!

The Articulate Advocate Award goes to Claire, Will Herondale's advocate! Despite losing out in the first round to Zachary (the 2nd place winner), Claire's defense was well-written, simple, and convincing! Bravo!

The Author Appreciation Award goes to Carli, (@Emberchyld)! Amy Plum herself was so pleased with her defense of Vincent that she is offering up an ARC of Until I Die for Carli's excellent defense!

The Verbose Advocate Award for the lengthiest defense goes to Alice, Peeta's Advocate!

The Pinch Hitter Homerun Award goes to Amanda, Jack's Advocate. She stepped in at the last minute, delivered a defense that was just as strong as those who had days and weeks to prepare, and led Jack to a victory!

The Buffy Award goes to Amy D-- Tucker's Advocate! She took a relative unknown, and helped him to slay the famous sparkling vampire that is Edward.

Award Winners-- you'll be receiving an email soon about your prizes! Congratulations!

***Also, be sure to check back often!  We will be posting an interview with Jace soon, speaking with him about winning the YA Crush Tourney!  You know that you don't want to miss that!!!

  2. I am so down for a Crush Tourney Reunion!! WOOP WOOP!!

This post made me smile so much i probably look like a freak! I could NOT agree with you more that all these sexy, funny, adorable, swoon worthy boys are way more than just fictional! This tourney made me fall in love with some of my favorites again, it make me fall for some newbies and also lessened my dislike of Zachary! ( a HUGE accomplishment by Amy & Jen :P)

Thanks s to all the other bloggers/advocates who made me laugh, cry, and want to make-out with theses fictional studs! Seriously some of the defenses were HOT! (I'm looking at you Bookish Bethie! I really want to kiss Kaleb now!) oh! and Tod! Oh! and Four! and Peeta!! and Tucker!! Okay all of them!

AND Thank YOU, thank you, THANK YOU to all the FANTASTICAL authors who trusted us to rep their boys in the tourney!! And who created them in the first place! Fictional boys really are just better than real ones! And thank you for donating such awesome prizes!! HOLY CRAP! Did you see all that!!?

LAST but certainly NOT least, thank you SO SO SO FREAKING much to all the YA Sisterhood girlies for hosting this amazing tourney and letting me be an advocate!! It was such a blast and i canNOT NOT NOT wait for the next one!! I HEART YOU!!

  3. Thank you so much for coming up with this fantastic idea for the tournament. You guys did such a phenomenal job. It was time intensive, but so fun and exciting.

The author involvement was absolutely amazing. And I'm just so glad that the spirit of the tournament was always kept positive and there was no character or author bashing allowed.

I can't wait to see what you have planned for the next one. This was so much work and it wouldn't nearly have been as much fun without the other bloggers who I got to know way more from the tourney and the authors who showed such great support for their characters.

The characters I want to meet most from this event who I hadn't met before are Michael and Kaleb from Hourglass! And I so wish Vincent and Jules made it farther in the event because I love them both.

It will be interesting to see what next year brings, without Jace in the mix, but I bet by that time Will will be a great contender with CP out! Though I will still choose Tod again if I had the choice, because the tourney made me absolutely fall in love with this character.

And I think next year Logan Keeley better make it into the tourney, because how could he not be considered crushworthy?

Oh those prizes are AMAZING! And I agree with Brooke, I'm definitely feeling more love for Zach than I did before the tourney, but I'm still Team Logan.

And YAY to Tucker's advocate though I'm sad he didn't win his match. Tucker is such a sweetheart!

Congratulations everyone, and a huge huge huge thanks to YA Sisterhood for coming up with this event to make the time fly!

  4. Thank you YA Sisterhood! It truly was an honor to represent Hale and the great Ally Carter! I'm so happy and proud to have been a part of this wonderful tournament and I met some really awesome/amazing women and my to-read list is longer than ever! I had so much fun and kind of miss the tournament and the camaraderie that it brought out in all of us. So, once again, thank you for dreaming up this crazy fun idea and allowing me to be a part of it! And thanks for calling me the coolest librarian! *blushes*

Go Team Hale (and proud member of Team Kilt as well!)!

  5. YEAH! Thanks to everyone - YA Sisterhood Girls and to the authors (Especially Ms. Stephanie Perkins for giving me Etienne St. Clair 'cuz he is my yum yum boy). AND...and...i did get some creepy personal message from some guy willing to take me up on the bikini car wash. Er, um, uh...instead, I washed my husband's car in my bikini. Ha ha. Then, I went to the beach and read Anna again (in my bikini) and that was good enough. I had a blast with all you girls 'cuz you all get the fascination with fictional boys and WHEN my book gets published...you all will hopefully have crushes on my boys as well. ;) Melissa (3fixedhearts)

  6. Thanks so much to the YA sisterhood gals for having the idea of this awesome tourney and running it beautifully.

With Jaime, I've had an awesome time not only advocating for one of my favorite characters, Ash from The Iron Fey, but also helping out and spreading the word for several of the other characters. Especially when it came to Zach from Shade and Tod from Soul Screamers.

This tourney has not only made me love my favorite charcters more but I've been introduced to some very interesting and crush worthy characters and books that I am very much looking forward to reading about.

The author involvement was unblieveable with a special thanks from me to Julie Kagawa. Also a very heartfelt thank you to the other bloggers and advocates that I "met" during the course of the tourney. They are what made this tourney so much fun and exciting.

I am looking forward to the next tourney and of course sign me up as an advocate again. (I'm sure Jaime feels the same way)
